SAFER is a nonprofit in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu that pairs grassroots organising with rigorous research, so the people closest to a problem are the ones shaping the solution.
Who we are
Action and research, treated as one job
Too often, research about a community happens far away from it, and action happens without evidence. SAFER closes that gap. We work alongside residents, youth groups and local leaders to identify what needs to change, gather the data that proves it, and campaign until something moves.
We are based in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, and accountable to the communities we serve.

Livelihoods & Women's Collectives
Skills training and practical support for community-run enterprises, with a focus on women-led groups.
Rights & Advocacy
Awareness sessions on entitlements and rights, and campaigns that take community findings to decision-makers.
Participatory Research
Community members trained as co-researchers, collecting and interpreting the data that drives our advocacy.
Research
Evidence, openly shared
Research is half of what our name stands for. Community members are trained to collect and interpret data on the issues they live with, and we commit to publishing what we find free for anyone to read, cite and reuse.
